Art Crumbs {New Paintings, Projects, & Other Recent Doodles}

Hello, my friends!

It’s time for another semi-recent art post! Today’s collection includes a bunch of pieces from exciting projects and products I can’t wait to tell you guys about! I also added in some “art crumbs” – small sketches and random doodles that didn’t fill their own page but still deserve to be shared.

Alright, this is going to get long so I’ll stop introduction-ing now. Enjoy some art inspiration!

We’ll start with some portrait practice. I like including the practice sketches in my notebooks along with the finished piece. Next time I think I won’t use graphite on watercolor paper, though… 

I started the page to the left to use up some leftover acrylic painting and then finished it ages later with more paint and some colored pencil. Nothing special, but it was fun. I painted the wildflowers for my sister’s wildflower stationery set which you can see here!

Ah, I love this one! My friend Aria commissioned me to paint these next two pieces as custom thank-you card designs for her photography business. Click here to see the finished card design.

A bunch of eye sketches (more to come) and some cute plant drawings for a friend.

Some random, colorful colored pencil doodles because I felt like drawing something cute and happy.

I wonder how many galaxy paintings I’ve created by now… It’s a LOT. But I still love making them. ❤ I painted galaxies with two of my art students a little while ago and we had so much fun!

Another complete-the-picture painting! It’s a fun exercise to cut out half of a symmetrical picture (food works well) and try and paint the other half to match.

A cute logo design for my mom’s flower truck business! Again, this changed a bit by the time I converted it to a digital file. Visit the Instagram page here to see the finished result.

I was looking through old Magnolia Journal magazines and just had to paint this aesthetic picture! I taped the inspiration in, made some color swatches, and created my own version on the right.

Another art lesson for my students – practicing perspective.

Art lesson again. A bunch of these are from art lessons I’ve taught. This spread got filled over the course of several weeks as we learned how to draw portraits and different features. 

Here are the eyes from the other page, plus an irrelevant but adorable fluffy owl from another page of the sketchbook.

More graphite sketches! Drawing hair is not my forte, so this was good practice.

I love the sunlit feeling of these painting. I don’t use acrylic that much but it’s always quite fun when I do.

Character designing… I think I named her Emily.

I really like the way this little piece turned out even though it’s pretty simple and sketchy. 

Another art lesson – the little sister of two of my students “helped” me color the top left girl. 😛

Galaxies are one of my favorite things to paint and eyes are one of my favorite things to draw. I love the color(s) of the iris in this one.

I have a bunch of double drawings in my sketchbooks from making the first for an example and drawing the second along with my students during the lesson. I kinda like it that way.

This is one of the illustrations I made for an exciting senior project my cousin is working on which I’ll have to tell you guys about when it’s finished!

You won’t have to wait long until I tell you what project this is from – you’ll be seeing this pretty sunflower in my next post, which is gonna be super exciting, so stick around. 😉

I’m realizing that most of the art in this post has been for some purpose or some project… This is part of the handlettering/typography online course which I’m (very slowly) working on releasing.

A vibrant sunset city silhouette. I almost always paint sunsets instead of drawing them, so this was a fun challenge. Colored pencils can look like paint if you blend them right.

Now for a few “art crumbs.” The sketchbook above is my “everything” sketchbook. Occasionally I’ll make a finished piece in there, but I also use it for brainstorming, planning, sketching, and doodling. Here are a few doodles I found among the pages: a cute, scribbly character sketch, a flower and bee for a small graphic design commission, random guys sketched from a magazine, and a neat foggy person which I totally copied from Pinterest, hehe.

 Next we have another small logo/graphic design project, Bob & Larry (obviously), some art for Megan’s coffee stationery, and a random but pretty flower drawing.

Next… I’ve been making a TON of tiny paintings over the past few months. I realized it’s really, really fun to paint 2″X2″ landscapes, so I decided to sell them on my shop. This is the first collection I released:

Here’s a cute set of tiny botanicals. I can picture these hung up in a dollhouse like a miniature gallery wall.

I was commissioned to make some fun custom tiny paintings too, like these cute Harry Potter watercolors.

Last but not least, a couple of custom pet paintings! This was the biggest one yet and took quite a long time, phew.

      1. Hey no problem Allison! It was a delight to see this latest work of yours!

        Even a special timing as I’m actually getting over the worst case of food poisoning in my life! Gut wrenching pain and nausea so bad I couldn’t even pass out for 24 hours straight to catch a wink!

        But then to see this delightful cheery and lovingly created work touched my heart and soul enough to help inspire me to climb up out of this hole I fell into sooner rather than later! You never know how something created from a genuine inner heart that was “inspired” is going to affect someone else and just might make a big difference in their day; or who knows maybe their life!

        Keep doing these good creative works and have faith in yourself and most of all God!

Well we are going into the cold season and that applies all over! Just do those good things you know how to do to stay healthy and you all will be fine I’m sure! Like how planting all those good seeds along with the right components will yield a wonderful bounty!   8. You are so incredibly talented! I recently got a flower pressing kit and new painting supplies. Twenty four tubes of new colour, brushes, canvases and a palette all for $100 that was covered with a voucher I had. Will have to start getting creative with it! x

Those ‘eyes’…very neat!👁 Super hard to pick out my favourite of your pictures..but…probably the 2 doggies🐶🐶 near the end of this post….(please do more blog posts of your assorted works….your talent inspires me…..)   13. What a gorgeous post!! And I agree with Laurel, your art never gets old! Its fresh and beautiful every time! Which brings me to my compliment-followed-by-a-question … I adore your galaxy paintings, and I have never been able to do one realistically. I think it would be awesome if you made a post explaining how you do galaxy paintings, maybe with step by step for beginner artists. I’d love to know HOW it appears on the page! 😅 Just a thought!

    1. Aw, that’s sweet. And I’d love to do a galaxy tutorial sometime! I’m thinking of doing a watercolor online course in the future and would definitely include that in it. 🙂
