A Cheerful Sunflower Field Photoshoot

Hello, my friends!

The sunflowers are back! Remember this sisters photoshoot Megan and I did last year in Dad’s sunflower field? Well, we’re planning on doing another photoshoot tomorrow, but I wanted to post these summery flower pictures in the meantime.

I know you’re supposed to save the best for last, but I couldn’t resist starting with one of my favorites. I just love this one. 🙂

Of course Maggie wanted to explore the sunflower field with me. Yellow labs look right at home with these flowers, don’t they?

One neat thing about growing flowers yourself instead of buying them in a bouquet is getting to see the plants in different stages, like this neat spiky bud.

The leaves are bigger than the bloom on this little guy. (Why do I always call inanimate objects “little guy”?)

This droopy-head here must be a popular dining place. (Thank me for refraining from a terrible bee pun, ahem.)

I think I found identical twin sunflowers. 🙂

What do you think? Twins or no?

Since this is just a small field for the dove hunters, Dad planted the sunflowers in a cleared area by our lane. I kinda like having the woods in the background just because you don’t usually see that in sunflower field pictures.

The flowers are just as pretty up close as far away. Such intricate centers.

I’ve taken so many bee + flower pictures in my lifetime but I still can’t resist another fuzzy bee photo… 😛

I love how flowers are classically pretty as well as geometrically fascinating. This would look neat as a pen-and-ink drawing, huh… Maybe I should draw this sometime.

What personality do you think sunflowers would have if they were people? I think they’d be outgoing, positive, cheerful, strong, bold, and confident. (My, that was a lot of adjectives.)

Anyone know what the little drops are in the center of some of these sunflowers? It looks almost like sap or something. Nectar? Probably not. I’m not sure, but it looks pretty!

I can imagine this being an artsy portrait if the subject was a person – slightly out-of-focus, a strange angle, and pretty details you don’t usually think about.

 The hunters requested some corn planted behind the sunflowers for the doves, but there’s actually more sunflowers behind the corn.

You can probably tell it was mostly cloudy when I took these pictures, but I still got enough sunlight for some backlit glowing petals here. So pretty, ah!

I love driving by the sunflower patch every time I come home. 🙂

We shall end with a farewell bee. *waves*

  11. These are beautiful! I love all the ones with the bees–bees are one of my obsessions. 🙂 It’s so cool that you have all that beauty on your property, and you get to drive past it often!

Great.This post made me happy because I am first farmer then photographer.Your images are so beautiful and pretty.In sunflowers center some drops are present,that sticks insects legs,and pollination ratio increases.Thats gift of nature mother for farmers.I respect all the farmers.Thanks and waiting your most beautiful pictures.
