Hello, dears!
Ha, I had a terrible time coming up with the title for this post. “Dark and moody” sounds scary to begin with, but when you combine it with “flowers”… It just doesn’t work. XD So I went with “dramatic.”
So anyway, I’m posting pretty flower pictures today. I was working with rather flat, boring lighting, so I decided to edit it in a more dramatic style that highlighted the intricate forms of the flowers without depending on nice, glowy lighting to make the colors pretty. I have to say, I’m quite pleased with how they turned out!
Also, some of these might make good phone wallpapers… feel free to use them as such if you wish. π Enjoy!
Let’s start with this gorgeous magnolia bloom. Magnolia flowers kind of reminds me of a lotus flower or… hmm, I’m blanking out on those lilypad things – oh! Right, a waterlily. That’s what I was trying to say. π But magnolias seem more grown up, somehow. And HUGE.
I love this one! A darker editing style really highlights the thick, creamy petals. They look so luxurious, don’t they?
If you haven’t seen one up close, you can get an idea of the size of these flowers by how big the buds are. I mean, it looks like I’m holding a large chicken egg. O.o
Now for other, smaller flowers around our house. We planted some lavender in the front last year and it’s blooming! Lavender is probably my favorite herb. Dainty purple flowers are pretty much the best. π
Another purple flower! I sort of ruined the mood by sticking my bare feet into the picture, but… I wanted to make it more interesting. XD
Ooh, this is one of my favorites! I think it looks quite Pinterest aesthetic. Snow-in-summer has dusty green foilage in real life, but I love this deeper shade in the picture.
“Pinks” is such an original name for small, pink flowers, isn’t it? *rolls eyes* They’re pretty bright and cheerful despite a boring name.
These pansies are one of my favorite shades of purple – a deep, rich, velvety shade. They look like little pieces of night sky with one yellow star in the middle. π
This year, the chives in our herb garden exploded into bloom. I love the unique, clover-like shape of the flowers! SO PUFFY.
An herb garden feels kind of like a vintage thing to have, especially since the colors are low-key and nothing too garishly bright. It’s lovely to walk through and smell the herbs as well as see them.
Another thing I’m happy about is how well the bachelor’s buttons came back from last year! Some blue ones even popped up between garden beds. Isn’t the shape really interesting? So frilly and intricate. (Hmm, this post has turned into a flower review. XD)
Another Pinterest-aesthetic one. π It’s neat to see more “moody” pictures of flowers because flowers seem anything but moody to me. I think the contrast tells a story and holds emotion in a way that maybe ordinary sunny pictures don’t.
Another favorite. β€ As I’m sure you’ve picked up, I love flowers, heh, but bachelor’s buttons are possibly my favorite flower. At least my favorite wildflower. They just make me so happy. β€
This angle makes it seem like the blooms are floating on a green sea. I usually go for more of a side view, but for round, flat flowers like this, I think this angle is still pretty interesting.
Ah, here’s that side view. There are daisies all along the roads right now, and sometimes along the lanes on our farm. These small chamomile daisies are doing their best to take over a couple of garden beds.
I’m not sure what this one is. It’s a weed – as in, not planted – but it’s still pretty. It reminds me of our hollyhocks which are starting to bloom too! But I’ll get better pictures of those another time.
We shall end with a little woodland bouquet I picked on a walk recently. I don’t know what any of the components are except, generally, the ferns. But I thought it was pretty. Wildflower bouquets are some of my favorites because they’re lovely in such an unassuming way.
Welp, that’s all for now, my friends! I hope you enjoyed those pictures as much as I enjoyed creating them. π Flowers are one of the supreme examples of God’s sheer, unnecessary goodness, aren’t they? And I’m most grateful; it would be a sad world with no flowers.
Which picture was your favorite? What do you think of dark editing styles vs. light ones? What flowers are blooming where you live?
Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

Thank you so much! PicMonkey used to be free but now I think it’s maybe $30 a year or something? Honestly I don’t know, but I do know it’s my favorite and it’s worth a lot to me since I edit pictures all the time! π

I highly recommend PicMonkey, then! It’s very easy to learn if you haven’t had much experience, and super fun to play around with. π I know there are other good sites to edit for free, but honestly PicMonkey is basically all I use. XD

All the flowers were awesome but I guess my favorite one would be the ‘ angle’ ones or ‘ magnolia’s. The pics and descriptions were so beautiful. I too have planted lots of blooming plants and I think I will write a post on them with pics. Lovely post, by the way!

Wow, these are just amazing! I really like the βmoodyβ aesthetic they all have, it really makes the photos truly unique. My top favorite is probably the last photo of the bouquet, itβs just so special π What changes did you make to the photographs to create their βmoodinessβ?

Aww, thanks! YES, that’s what I thought too! I’m so glad you like that one, because same. So I used a couple of custom filters I created in the editing program I use (picmonkey.com) to deepen the shadows, tone down the highlights, and then add kind of a blue or cool tone to the pictures. Plus some other effects, but those were the main ones! π

AHH I love how dark & moody this post is! Such a different style from you, but just as beautiful! ππ I was super happy because I got out and photographed the irises and leftover dogwood blossoms before the rains hit.

Those photos are beautiful! I like the dramatic touch you put. I just simply adore flowers; they are pretty to look at! There are some lavenders growing in our backyard that I tend to take photos of; the color adds to all the greenery. God is an incredible artist! π
