Macro Explorations {Raindrop Photography}

Hello, dears!

Ahh, guys, I’m so excited for this post because I have to say – this is my favorite nature photoshoot I’ve done in quite a while! 😀 If you’re a regular reader around here, you know that raindrop photography is a recurring theme with me, heh. If you’re new, hopefully the reason why will be clear after you read the post. 😉 I don’t think I’ll ever not be amazed at the perfect little jewels that literally coat the ground after a rain.

Macro photography isn’t really going to change your life or anything, but maybe it can remind you that there’s beauty and wonder everywhere, even in the rain, even when the big picture looks a lot like a sopping wet backyard in winter. You know? 🙂 It does for me.

Anyway. Let’s get into it!

Ahh, so shinyyyy! Doesn’t that big raindrop look like glass?? I love the way the surface color shows through each drop and turns them different colors. 🙂

Most, if not all, of these were taken around our herb garden, which is still green in spots since it’s sheltered by the house. The parsley is thriving!

I’m not exactly sure how clover that turns drops to silver, but I love it.

I’m not even sure what this is. XD It was growing out of a flower pot that formerly housed bush basil, so… *shrugs* Also, random artist thought: isn’t it interesting how this thing has two (or four) petals all the way around? I usually draw flowers with an odd number of petals because even numbers can look unnatural. Huh.

Can you spot a tiny bug? Sometimes I don’t notice details like that until after I take the picture or edit it.

It took me a while to realize that these tiny little guys were everywhere! I don’t know… are they aphids? Is this picture gross or neat to you? 😛 My favorite part is the miniscule drop on that one bug.

Sage leaves already look kind of misty and wet because of their silver fuzz. Rain drops just enhance that.

More parsley. This picture just looks so FRESH and clean and… kind of like those enormous posters at the grocery store of produce covered with water drops, you know? 😛

Simple photos like this are so powerful in their lack of clutter. This is a minimalist water drop, I do believe. 😛

The crevices of this curly parsely “ate up” most of the water drops to create a bunch of pools. But can you spot the one tiny drop in this photo? (This reminds me of the hidden pictures or mystery photo posts I did ages ago… I should do those again!)

Whoa, isn’t this strange? A blade of grass or weed of some sort pierced through a clover leaf like a small sword! Wow. How was it that sharp?? It’s amazing how many tiny stories you find outside.

We shall end with a few of my favorite photos of this post, featuring a bejeweled ladybug. 🙂

*happy sigh* I just love how refreshing yet peaceful these are. The ladybug seems oblivious to the sparkling world around it, yet so serenely a part of it.

I think I like the previous picture better, but I’m more proud of this one because of how clear it is. If you’ve ever tried using this lens extension tube, you’ll know how tricky it is to get sharp shots of tiny subjects. But eep, it’s so rewarding when you do! Ahh, that post was so fun to make. I hope you enjoyed it too, my friends! I love how being a photographer gives me new eyes, like looking through a special pair of glasses that make the world looks more beautiful, important, breathtaking. Photography helps inspire me to live wide-eyed and full of wonder. ❤

    I recently purchased that exact macro extension tube kit and can’t figure out how to use it! 😂 I use a Nikon d750 & d3300. It may just be me but I can’t figure it out lol!

  6. The first one kind of looks like a praying mantis face. XD Like the big red drops on the sides are the eyes? Am I the only one who sees it? XD
    Whoa those red weird leaves look like a rose!! O.o
    Oooh the grass poking through the leaf is cool.
    Awe ladybugs are so cute. To me it seems to be thinking: “I…am…very…WET.” XD

  10. Oh my goodness! I’ve never gotten macro to work on my camera… Maybe my lens isn’t good enough? I can never actually get that close.

    But anyway, WOW. These photos are absolutely stunning, girl! That lady bug, and all the raindrops! Insanely pretty 😍😍

    1. Well, I have a particular macro lens extension tube set for DSLRs, so it’s not technically the lens – is the extension tubes that you can attach to I think basically any lens!

  11. Eeeep! These are so beautiful! The parsley photo could definitely be on a huge poster at the grocery store. And that cute ladybug makes me wonder why I ever hated them swarming into the house. XD

    These are the kind of photos I love taking. If the camera wasn’t broken, I’d be outside every day getting new photos. Keep it up, Allison. Your work is amazing!

  14. Love the macro photography! And the ladybugs are so cute! Weird thing I didn’t realize until a week or two ago: ladybugs are actually beetles. 🤣🤣🤣 Yay for random revelations which I probably should have already know.

    1. Thank youuu! Heh heh, yay for random revelations indeed! I think like in old books I’ve read, they called them “ladybeetles” sometimes instead of ladybugs. Weird. XD

  19. Macro photography isn’t really going to change your life or anything. I also agree with you. Any kind of photography can’t change your life. But remind your beauty, determined, etc. Macro photography is one of them.
