My 2020 Bullet Journal Setup {Plan with Me}

Hello, dears!

I hope you had a wondermous Christmas! I’m scheduling this post because I’ll probably be at one of our many Christmas celebrations with family when you read this. Ahh, it’s going to be great! But anyway…

Yayyy, I’ve looked forward to this post for so long! The other day I finally pulled out my new bullet journal and set it up for use in 2020. 🙂 I did my best to keep the layouts simple, functional, and easy to use, while also making it pleasing to the eye with a pretty purple and gold aesthetic. I can’t wait to show you how it turned out!

Ready for some bujo inspiration? Let’s go!

Today I shall be using my GORGEOUS Tsuki bullet journal from Notebook Therapy. (Click here to see my review.) Guys, this is the best bullet journal I’ve ever had and I’m SO excited to start using it!

The one downside is it doesn’t have a ton of pages – this size would be perfect for a 6-month planner, but I was determined to use it for a year, so I had to be creative with my spacing and make everything concise and intentional – which turned out to be kind of a blessing in disguise!

bujo

This is my first spread, which I showed in the aforementioned review. I used these same colors and concepts through the whole book – purple, blue, pink, and gold with kind of a space/galaxy theme to tie in the tiny moon on the front of the journal. 🙂

bujo 1

I love how this cover page turned out – simple but pretty. This paper is so thick, it holds up to the Sharpie and watercolor quite well which is GREAT.

bujo 2

Now for my first real spread. I always like to start with a year-at-a-glance page like this to keep track of events coming up, as well as have a handy reference for making monthly calendars and adding dates later on.

bujo 3

Yes, this page took forever. XD But it was worth it! In case you want to copy this, each calendar square is 7 boxes by 7 boxes big – five rows for the weeks, a row for the day names, and then a row for the header. I looked up the dates and then highlighted any important(ish) holidays with a purple marker.

bujo 4

When I actually use this spread, I’ll circle the date on the left in pencil, and write the date and the corresponding event in the proper box on the right. 🙂 I did something similar in my last journal and it worked great!

bujo 5

I have a bunch of ideas for the 2020 goals, but I’m saving them for the next post. 😉 That’s pretty self-explanatory, so let me move on to the year in pixels…

bujo 6

Honestly, I always thought these trackers were rather useless; plus I never understood how you could pick just one of the large range of emotions they included in the key. Like, I’m never just sad or just happy or just frustrated in a day – so which emotion do I choose? XD But I think the idea is neat, so I made a simpler version to document how my day went overall. It will be nice to look back and get a visual picture of what my year was like. Hopefully it will look very pink and purple. 😉

bujo 8

You can be super creative with book and birthday trackers, but I decided to maximize my space and time and just make simple “bookshelves” for each, with washi tape for interest.

bujo 9

I’ll probably draw in little books on the left as I go, but I kept the shelves blank for now. And I’ll write numbers and names on the right, because, while I can often remember a unsettling amount of personal details about people, I’m not good with dates. *shrugs* Anyone else?

bujo 10

These pages are pretty self-explanatory too. I sometimes jot things down on sticky notes, but I like having a place to collect more important thoughts or ideas in my bullet journal.

bujo 11

That’s it for the yearly pages. Now for the monthly planner section!

bujo 13

I started with this simple but pretty cover: a purple watercolor background with gold and violet lettering. I also put a little monthly goals section right below the cover so I wouldn’t  waste space. 😉

bujo 14

I made a simple calendar this time. I don’t want it to be too complicated since I’m going to recreate it each month. I refer back to my monthly calendars a lot, at least I have in the past. (Oops, sorry about the blurriness.)

bujo 15

Next up we have the habit trackers and money sections.

bujo 16

This year, I decided to go easy on myself and print out the numbers instead of writing them all out by hand for twelve months. XD Plus, I can keep extra trackers in the bullet journal’s back pocket for easy access! Right now I’m tracking Scripture memory, going outside (a.k.a. actually DOING something/exercising), replying to all the emails I need to, being in bed before 11:00, getting an Etsy sale, and doing farm work for Dad with the hay business.

bujo 17

Okay, I GREATLY simplified my finances page from the setup last time. I whittled it down to farm work income, etsy income, and uncategorized income, with boxes of different sizes depending on how detailed I’m going to be with the entries. I kept the same boxes for personal and business spending that I did last time, because those worked well. I also have spaces for net money earned/lost and the current balance, which I think will be useful.

bujo 18

This is the last spread I have for you today!

bujo 19

I like the idea of writing down one thing you’re grateful for daily, but also wanted to keep my prayer list, so I divided a page in half to do both. We’ll see if it works. 😉

bujo 20

To save space, I decided to create weekly pages instead of daily to-do lists, which I can just write on Post-It notes for easy reference anyway. Here I’ll plan things like art class plans for that Thursday, hay orders I’ll be helping with, when it’s my turn for doing the laundry or making supper, etc. I also added a short section for weekly goals/to-dos as well as notes on events.

bujo 21

And that’s a wrap! I greatly condensed my bujo this year and kept things pretty minimal as far as the art went, but with the pretty colors, gold accents, and nice lettering, I think it still looks aesthetic. 🙂 I hope you enjoyed this tour! Feel free to pin this post for future inspiration, and drop a comment below:

Which of these pages do you like best? Do you have a 2020 bujo/planner? What page or tracker do you find most helpful?

Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

  1. AHH SO PURPLE AND BLUE AND GOLD AND WATERCOLORY. This is absolutely beautiful + practical and it looks so much like you, my dear! ❤ Your bujo skills are ones to be very envious of indeed. 😀

  2. Wow, that is minimalist! I always struggle with that, because when I do it, it doesn’t look very nice, but you really made it work! It’s funny actually, I did a purple galaxy theme too! Although, I don’t really have a minimal theme though. And get this, January’s theme is mermaids! I am really happy with how it turned out!

    1. Why thank you! That’s a compliment. 😊 Yeah, I know what you mean – minimalist themes often just look boring, but using colored plus gold ink and keeping things neat really seemed to help here! Ooh, really? I just love purple and galaxies. Oh FUN! Someone should do mermaids for May, because there’s this thing kind of like Inktober called Mermay where you’re supposed to draw a different mermaid each day of that month. Sounds hard to me. O.o Anyway, your bujo sounds gorgeous!

    1. Ahh, thanks! I know, it does take some time, but I set things up in such a way that the things I’ll have to recreate each month or week are fairly quick to do since, you know, life! XD That’s the thing about bullet journals, though. :/

    1. Ahh, thank you so much! Planners would be a lot simpler, but I do like the customizability (is that a word?? XD) of bullet journals since you’re not tied to the planner’s already-printed layout. I think it just depends on the person and their preferences! Thanks for the comment. 🙂

  4. Oh your gold and watercolor theme is SO PRETTY! ❤ I have a regular planner for life stuff, but my bujo I use for reading/book related things for my blog. I use "mood" trackers but instead I just use whatever colors I want to color in every day I pick up a book. So it's kind of more of a habit tracker I guess. 🙂

    1. I do fill it out throughout the year, although last year I didn’t use it as much in December. The nice thing about bullet journals is that you can change the formats later if you find it’s not working for you!

  6. I love the colors! I just started my second bullet journal. I actually just posted about my February theme if you want to check it out!

  7. This is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely bookmarking for future referral. I do a Happy-list every month, similar to your gratitude page, where I simply write down something every day that made me happy. It can be big or small, like someone said something nice or I booked a trip, or saw a friend. Love looking back at it later.
I’ve been doing my bullet journal for a year now, didn’t think I’d be able to keep it up for so long when I started, but it’s flown by and I love it!
