Hello, dears!

I just finished another Bible journal, so I thought today I’d show you some of my favorite verses and pages from it! 🙂 If you recall from my other Bible journal posts, right now I’m rereading the Bible, one chapter at a time, and copying down my favorite verse from each chapter in a notebook, theoretically with pretty lettering, although it doesn’t always turn out that way. 😛 I love looking back at the verses I wrote out in the past and reflecting on them in these posts!

Ready for some encouraging Bible verses and pretty lettering inspiration? Let’s get started!

I filled this journal/sketchbook with verses from Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and part of Isaiah. (I wish I could have fit all of Isaiah, but I ran out of pages!) Also yayyy, my next Bible journal will be the tenth one!

I like the way the first page turned out with this classic verse from Ecclesiastes. Curving or arching the words adds more visual interest than writing them in straight lines.

“My heart found pleasure in all my toil” – that right there is a good goal, to glorify God by enjoying the work he’s given us to do. I tried something different with the brackets or boxes to break up the lines of text into units so they’re a bit easier to read.

This verse is so encouraging, isn’t it? For everything there is a season… Sometimes I’m tempted to try and skip to the next stage or year, but why would I do that when God blesses us with changing seasons, not only in nature but in life? I have to learn to contentment and joy in THIS season, resting in the knowledge that it will leave someday and a new one will take its place.

Oof. This is a hard one. You mean sometimes it’s better to wait for God’s guidance instead of trying to do the heavy lifting by yourself? *sigh*

Another very practical piece of truth. *nods*

The end of Ecclesiastes is great. After trying to find satisfaction and pleasure in all the things, the narrator realizes that, while God has given us good gifts to enjoy, they make terrible replacement gods when we try to find our full satisfaction in them.

We’ve been going through the wisdom books in church, and I love the conclusions of Job and Ecclesiastes especially: when you’re at the end of your rope and you don’t know where else to turn… there is God. And he is enough.

Next, Song of Solomon! I haven’t read this book as much as many others in the Bible, so I was really interested to hear sermons on it and read through it again. It’s filled with a lot of variations of “you are altogether beautiful, my love,” and this is one of them. 😉 Filling in the faux calligraphy except for a few rectangular highlights takes FOREVER, but the result is lovely!

If you think about it, this verse is one of the themes of the entire Bible – Christ’s love for us was stronger than death so that, by loving and trusting him for salvation, death can’t hold us ultimately either!

I love thissss. What a vivid picture! Our sin-stains are even more impossible to scrub off than bloodstains on a white cloth. But Christ died, taking our bloody sins on himself on the cross and giving us his spotless garment of righteousness instead, without which we could never be clean enough to stand before a perfectly holy God.

Okay, I do NOT like the lettering of this one – it’s just super messy – but I love the verse. Isaiah’s  despair, the despair of a sinner before a blindingly holy God, is just so powerful. I wish I felt that way about my own sin. It’s all too easy to look at it like tiny specks of dust, isn’t it?

I really like the lettering of this one! Filling in spaces with tiny horizontal lines adds more interest than solid black, sometimes. Also, try sticking in some little flags to hold short words. 🙂

It’s interesting that this classic Christmas verse was spoken so long before Christ actually came. We can look back to something that already happened, but the Israelites had faith in something that was yet to occur!

If you like doodling better than lettering, or think you have terrible handwriting, try copying down a verse in small caps and filling part of the page with a simple drawing instead.

I LOVE THIS VERSE.

This is one of my favorites, lettering-wise! I love the curved words at the top and bottom, the little illustration at the end, and especially the hollow script for “God” and “Rock.” I just use a pen for my journaling, so, in the absence of thick markers, I like to mix up the stroke width of words by simply outlining them.

This is really hard to read, so I’ll type it out for you because it’s amazing: “He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away for all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, ‘Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.'” – Isaiah 35:8-9

I  l o v e  this verse. Ahh.

If you want to do lettering but can only write normal print, TRY THIS. All you have to do is draw a couple of wavy lines, then fill them up with capital letters. Super easy and looks great!

A question to keep asking ourselves…

Another poorly-written page for a beautiful verse. This is maybe one of my favorite Bible verses. ❤

This. Is. So. Encouraging. Oh my, how amazing is it to realize that the Creator of the universe is holding us and helping us?!

I placed the verse in a cloud shape because, well, read it! I don’t necessarily like the lettering since the fonts aren’t very cohesive. But again, the verse is… ahh! Incredible.

*deep breath* Ah, this one. The last half of this verse is what our culture doesn’t accept. Personal views are one thing, but when someone claims that religion  (what is seen as a “subjective opinion”) is actually a FACT, well, no wonder they get offended! I might be offended if someone told me strawberry ice cream is objectively the best and I have to only eat that for the rest of the life. But… do you see how silly that comparison is?

We have to gently and lovingly help people realize that this isn’t about preferences; this is about truth. THE truth, not my truth or your truth. Jesus Christ sacrificed everything to bring us life with God when we were running pell-mell to our death. That is an objective statement: it is either true or false, and, unlike your favorite flavor of ice cream, it is a life or death matter.

Can you see why Christians want to tell people about Jesus? It’s not that we’re mad at you for not adopting some pet theory or favorite ice cream flavor. We’re heartbroken that you are choosing death when life is there in front of you. Do you see that? Can you see…?
