I recently had the opportunity to housesit for some friends. I’d never done that before, so I was excited to “play house” and live by myself for a few days. It was fun! And strangely quiet, after living with six other people. 😛 It was nice to come home and be with my family again, though, where there’s always something going on. 🙂
Most of my responsibilities concerned feeding the animals, so of course I had to get a bunch of photos of them while I was at it. If you like cats, dogs, goats, chickens, rabbits, or all of the above, you might enjoy this post!
Let’s go find some cuteness.
We’ll start with Shadow, the sweet black lab mix puppy. ❤ ISN’T SHE ADORABLE? She looks so much like Macy used to!
Honestly, I basically only got good pictures of her when she was leashed – otherwise she’d be an ecstatic blur. XD But leashes are serious affairs, as you can tell.
“Please stop taking pictures of me and PET ME.” *literal puppy eyes* I could tell Shadow was a little sad while her family was away and there was only one person to give her love instead of eight. 😉
But she sure loved me! A little too much, in fact – she thought the world would end when she had to go in her crate or I went in the bathroom or – heaven forbid! – tried to go to sleep in another room where she couldn’t be! *shakes head*
So yeah… as cute as she was, I still prefer outside dogs. 😛 What do you think? And aww, isn’t this adorable? ❤ I must say, dogs are generally WAY more affectionate than cats. *nods*
Moving on to the two goats, Velvet and Vanilla! (I have no idea which is which, heh. 😛 )
For some reason I’m not a fan of goats, but these were awfully cute, I must admit. Because THOSE EARS, THOUGH.
Oh goodness, is it just me or is this picture slightly creepy? O.o :’D
Oh my, these goats LOVED eating leaves. And I mean loved with a vengeance. Velvet-or-Vanilla looks like she’s slurping up a (very wiry) spaghetti noodle here.
It was quite amusing to watch them eat. The crunching sounds made the leaves seem pretty appetizing…
Now for the bunnyyyyy! Yay for rabbits. Phyllis is an American Chinchilla rabbit, I think, which means that she has beautiful gray, speckled fur, and also: she’s HUGE. Not quite as big as a Flemish giant, but getting on up there.
BAHAHA this photo cracks me up. :’D Just hold on, Phyllis, I’m bringing you food right after I take the picture…
In case you’re wondering why the lighting changes so drastically between photos – I took them at different times: once when the light was a little too dim, and once when it was a little too harsh. Oops.
I love this one! The colors are so full of life because of the sun. Plus LOOK IT’S A BUNNY.
Next up, we have five sweet, black chickens. (And I don’t know their names – sorry!) I love the contrast of the cool, frosty blue on the left with the warm rays of sun on the right of this photo. 🙂
I’m definitely a fan of this picture too! Somehow, the chickens were quite photogenic.
We have one black hen ourselves, as you might recall. I like the way the red comb and black feathers look together (no rhyme intended 😛 ).
I kinda want to draw this with colored pencil and try to capture the subtle color changes. I think I will!
This photo isn’t stunning, but GUYS. Aren’t the feathers beautiful? I thought it was so pretty, the way they caught the light and turned partially blue or green. It amazes me how much gratuitous beauty and design God put into even one feather!
Last but not least, this is Hunter. I like to call him their “98% cat” because he lost the tip of his tail a while ago, though you can’t tell from the photos. He’s sooo sweet and cute and much more affectionate than our grumpy tom cats.
I couldn’t resist keeping a bit of color in this photo. Hunter must have found my car a nice resting spot, safe from Shadow, who likes the cat a little too much.
Sunlit whiskers. 😀
We’ll end here with one of my favorite pictures, taken when Hunter was seeking refuge from Shadow on the stairs inside. I love dramatic black-and-whites like this where the shadows contrast strongly with the highlights. Chiaroscuro photography, remember? 😉
That’s it for today, my friends! I hope all that animal cuteness brightened your day at least a little bit. If your weather’s like ours right now, it could use a little brightening!
Which photo was your favorite? Do you like cats, dogs, goats, chickens, or rabbits the best? Inside pets or outside pets? Have you housesat before?
Thanks so much for reading, and have a lovely day!
