Sweaters & Sunflares {Autumn Sisters Photoshoot}

Hello, dears!

Another fall post! Are you surprised? šŸ˜› Hee hee, but somehow this happens every year – autumn is such a fleeting and beautiful season that I can’t help but get a TON of pictures before it leaves (no pun intended šŸ˜› )! Anyway, this should be the last completely fall-themed post for a while, and I think you’re going to like this finale. šŸ˜‰

Megan and I did a sisters photoshoot a while ago when the leaves were still on the trees – and even a little on the early side as far as color goes. We both got some really nice shots! As usual, credit goes to Megan for the photos of me, while I took the pictures of her and edited all the ones in this post.

I hope you enjoy! šŸ˜€

We started down at the pond, since the sycamore trees there at least looked sort of yellow, (which matched with our sweaters, yay!). Megan climbed up in the tree to begin with; I forget if that was her idea or mine…

DSC_6662

Whoever’s idea that was (I think it was mine), it was nice, but… eh, it made for a very confusing picture. Too many branches! So Megan hopped off the tree and tried to bring a branch down to HER level. šŸ˜› (To be honest, I’m mainly putting this picture in because THE LIGHTING IS PRETTY. XD)

DSC_6673

I wanted to get at least one of the classic leaf-in-front-of-face fall pictures, so Megan obliged me.

DSC_6676

THEN I had an idea to do a photo through a leaf – you know, like where the camera’s peering through a rip and you can just see part of the subject’s face? Well, turns out that’s trickier than it looks. :’D

DSC_6709

Aha! This worked better. Yay, an eye picture! (If you’re new here – I’m fascinated with eyes for some reason, so you’ll probably see a lot of eye art and photography. šŸ˜‰ ) Tip: use manual focus; otherwise the camera will probably select the leaf on auto.

DSC_6721

I also experimented with the photographer (me) holding the leaf while Megan stepped back. That worked well too, but with all the blur, you couldn’t really tell it was a leaf. I really like this one, though!

DSC_6734

We were quite excited to find a bright red sweet gum sapling near the pond, breaking off a branch and carrying it around with us throughout most of the shoot so we actually had color to play with. Don’t these leaves have such a neat, starry shape?

DSC_6742

Me, debating how you’re actually supposed to pose with a branch of leaves…

DSC_6749

By this time, the pond area was starting to sink into shadow, so we quickly made our way to higher ground. I decided to keep the accidental slant of this picture because it makes me look like I’m climbing a hill when in reality this field was fairly flat. :’D

DSC_6773

We found some more pretty sweet gums, but sadly the angle that captured the colors was also the perfect angle for harsh lighting. -_-

DSC_6797

I still like this one, despite the shadows all over my face!

DSC_6799

Ahh, there we go. Much more even lighting.

DSC_6801

I asked Megan to get some new headshots for me, which she did! And then I proceeded to take my own instead. Heh… To be fair, I wanted something a little more colorful, and I found it, as you may have noticed.

However, I’m thinking of making this my profile picture once autumn turns to winter, because it’s more versatile. What do you think?

DSC_6807

Oh myyyy, something must have been funny. :’D

DSC_6823

Who uses hoods on hoodies and sweaters, raise your hand? I actually never do, but it was fun to experiment for photos! šŸ˜‰ And look, a baby sunflare. šŸ˜€

DSC_6824

These ties are SUPER soft and velvety. Also I don’t know why, but I love this picture! Maybe because I adore details.

DSC_6849

Phew, that was a lot of me. Let’s go back to Megan now. I love the glow of this photo. ā¤

DSC_6854

So pretty! I kind of want to draw this picture… (Also I like how she put her hands in her pockets and her thumbs through belt loops. šŸ˜€ )

DSC_6855

More sunflares! As you’ll see, Megan was a sun-flare magnet for this photoshoot. šŸ˜›

DSC_6859

The light was fading again, so we kept chasing it, further down a path through some brushy “woods” that still looked lovely in the golden light.

DSC_6867

My little sister Carmen actually came with us for this photoshoot since no one else was in the house, but she did an excellent job at not photobombing of our pictures. Maggie, however… XD But it’s fine; she pulled it off well. šŸ˜›

DSC_6871

Ooh, I really like this pose!

DSC_6876

More sunflares. šŸ™‚

DSC_6885

I like the peering-through-leaves photos, you know?

DSC_6894

And now we’re at the part where the sun was just about dying (you can see it’s almost behind the horizon), and we squeezed a few last pictures out of the light. AND MORE SUNFLARES.

DSC_6914

Such a tiny little leaf. šŸ˜€

DSC_6916

I’m hiding where no one can see me… KEEP ME SAFE, SMALL LEAF, KEEP ME SAFE.

DSC_6920

Megan attempted to capture a sunflare for me, but it didn’t work as well. She did get a small one, though!

DSC_6923

My hair looks kinda wild in this one, heh. XD

DSC_6945

Yayyy, a Megan smile! As I was sorting through these pictures, I realized that she wasn’t actually smiling in many of them, strangely enough. But here we go. šŸ™‚

DSC_6948

We shall end with this heartwarming picture of… Megan trying to appease Maggie without actually petting her wet-dog-smelling fur. :’D

DSC_6956

There we go! Now you’re mostly caught up on the fall photos I’ve taken recently. šŸ™‚ I may sneak a few in a future Etcetera post, but until then…

Do you have a favorite picture (or pictures)? Was the leaf frame at the beginning creepy or neat? And do you prefer open sweaters like Megan’s cardigan, or pullover sweaters like mine?

Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

  2. Lovely pictures! Megan and you both look so beautiful! I love all the sun flares! I like both kinds of sweaters. Honestly, what kind I wear depends on my mood. XD, I actually LOVED the leaf frame pictures! They looked awesome!

  3. ALL OF THESE ARE SO CUTE!!!! I love literally all of them! The ones where you shot through the leaves were so cool! And I love the lighting and the expression on her face in the second one too. šŸ˜€
I love hoodies and cardigans, but I never actually use the hoods on them either. XD
Uh, random question, but do you and Megan have matching boots? XD They’re really cute! I love boots. I had some calf length ones but the cheap rubber soles shredded in less than a year. :/
Ugh literally all of these are just SO PRETTY! Golden hour really is magical. ā¤

    1. AWW, THAAAAANKS! Yeah, I love those too! Hee hee, yes!
      I know, right? XD
Heh, well our boots are similar but not quite matching – for one thing, hers are more of a reddish brown than mine. I love boots too! Oh shucks, that’s too bad. :/ I got mine from Belk around Black Friday so they were a great price and also super quality!
AWW, THANKS AGAIN. I knoooow, though, isn’t it?

      1. Oh okay they look like the same pair because you can’t really tell the color difference in the photos. šŸ˜›
I’ve never heard of Belk. We probably don’t have any up here. XD
I did find some cute boots at Walmart though but they are only a couple inches taller than my ankles. I really like them though cuz they have laces and zippers so I can adjust them but not have to retie them every time I put them on like my other pair of ankle boots. XD

        1. Ah, yeah – especially because we weren’t standing together in any of the photos so you could compare them.
WHAT REALLY? That’s funny! XD It’s one of the only clothing stores we have close by here!
Ooh, that’s great! Yeah, I definitely prefer slip-on shoes as well. šŸ˜‰

  5. These pictures are beautiful! I loved the picture of your eye through the leaf (or maybe it was Megan’s?) and Megan with her back turned walking into what looks like a wilderness of brush.
I prefer pullover sweaters to cardigans, but both are lovely.
Thank you for the wonderful post!
