A Collection of Fall Portraits

Hello, dears!

I just spent a lovely weekend at a women’s retreat with my church! And now that I have internet again, I’m back with some snippets of various fall photoshoots I’ve done in the past month or so. πŸ™‚

Also, I’m also planning an exciting post coming up this Friday (which may or may not involve a giveaway πŸ˜‰ ), so stay tuned for that!

Ahem. But now, let’s get into those photos…

featured image 133

We shall start with a grand total of three photos from a mostly-failed sister’s photoshoot I did with Megan.Β  XD We’d been wanting to do a fall-themed shoot for a while, but by the time we got outside, the sun was sinking too fast and we had to give up after a few pictures. BUT, we’re going to try it again soon, and next time I’ll actually have pictures of Megan, too!

post 4

I’m not sure what I’m doing here, but I decided to include it because I like the composition and you can’t see any weird expressions on my face. πŸ˜› Also GUYS, I LOVE THIS SWEATER. I found it at Belk, and even though I’m usually not a clichΓ©-baggy-sweater person at all, this was so soft and cozy, I couldn’t resist. πŸ™‚

post 3

“Why HELLO, leaf #23323477! Fancy seeing you here!” Heh, again, not sure what I’m doing, but I still kinda like the picture. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention I got my hair cut shorter again recently, so if I look different than I did in my last portrait photography post, that’s probably why. πŸ˜‰

post 2

Okay, more photos from this photoshoot may show up eventually, but for now – here’s a picture of one reason why we haven’t done a real fall photoshoot yet. The leaves are mostly green, brown, and yellow so far. *sigh* They’re starting to change around us by now, though, so YAY! I’m happy.

fall 5

Next, onto the main photoshoot in this post, which was inspired by this little guy:

fall 1

I was out in the woods, collecting fall leaves for an art class I was teaching the next day, when I stumbled across a shy little box turtle (I think)! Of course, that had to be the one time I didn’t have my camera…

fall 13

So I flew back to the house, changed, grabbed my camera and tripod, and tried to retrace my steps and find the turtle. And guess what? I did! I was counting on him being slow, but I don’t think he’d even moved at all. πŸ˜›

fall 3

And then I had to take some pictures with the turtle, just because turtles are great. He kept himself closed up pretty tight after I first saw him and ran back to the house. Not that I blamed him. How could he know I wouldn’t hurt him?

fall 9

Wow, I just realized I’ve been looking down in practically all the portraits so far. XD Oops. Also just a heads-up: there’s going to be a grand mixture of editing types in this post because I had a hard time figuring out a consistent theme. *sigh* Next time I believe I’ll take them in RAW format and try editing them more naturally in Photoshop.

fall 8.2

I had to include this one because HAHAHA WHAT ON EARTH. My hands look so OLD. XD

fall 15

Oh guess what? I’m not looking at the camera again. It’s hard for me to wear a natural expression when I’m looking at a camera on a tripod and not a real person taking pictures of me. Anyone else??

fall 10

AHA! There we go. You can see my face! Except… it’s blurry. -_- That’s another hard part about self-portraits: you focus your camera on wherever you’re planning to be, but it’s hard to know exactly where that is, especially with a low aperture.

post 10

Let’s just take a picture of a leaf for now. That’s much easier.

fall 16

Heh heh, I thought it would be amusing to use this unhelpfully tall stump as a prop.

fall 18

I really like this one except for the way I edited it. I think the pose is cute.

fall 20

I love portraits incorporating nature, since nature is something that inspires me quite often. I tried wearing some leaves as “boot socks,” but MAN it was hard to walk to my designated place without them falling out. O.o

post 12

Hee hee, I FINALLY got a clear picture of me holding up a leaf. Isn’t this sassafras sapling fascinating? I absolutely love the uniquely shaped leaves and how there are so many different leaf shapes even within the tree.

post 9

This was pretty much the last picture from the photoshoot, as the sun was coming out again and causing pretty harsh lighting. I will refrain from making any sarcastic comments on this one. *takes deep breath*

fall 6

And now to end on a not-so-fallish photo, here’s a nice silhouette of me on the roof, because that’s a normal place to take pictures, right? I’m really glad my tripod didn’t slide off. :[] I like the thoughtful, dreamy mood it conveys. πŸ™‚

post 8

And that, my friends, is a sampling of some recent photography escapades! Again, stay tuned for more fall photos in the future (because I can’t resist), and a particularly exciting announcement in the next post on Friday. πŸ™‚ Until then…

Which photo did you like the best? Do you have any portrait photography tips to share? Have you done a fall photoshoot recently? Let me know and I’ll check it out! πŸ˜€

Thanks so much for reading, and have a lovely day, dears!

  1. How pretty! Your yellow/golden sweater is just gorgeous and it goes so perfectly with the browns, yellows and reds of fall.
Hehe, I wish I could share some portrait photography tricks, but I need a few myself! Ah, the things to learn! (:
    Have a glorious day!

Thank you so much! Ugh, yes, it was so dreary here too. :/ At least for most of the day – it finished with sunshine and a beautiful foggy sunset!

  4. Oh I love that sweater! It looks so cozy and cute on you! It matches the scenery too. XD
Weren’t you cold standing in that puddle with no shoes? XD Maybe because I’m in the north but this late in the year any body of water is like hypothermic by now so that pic just made me cringe. XD
Awe TURTLES! Another thing we don’t have up here. I think they’re so cute! I wish he poked his head out, that would’ve been a great pic. πŸ˜€ I really like the one where you’re holding him though, it’s so cute!
I like the one where you’re standing by the tree. It looks like a cross.
I love your boots and green shirt too! It’s such a cute fall outfit. πŸ˜€ I love your leaf socks too! XD XD
What’s wrong with the second to last one? I like the lighting! It’s a cute pose too. I think it looks good! πŸ˜€
The last one looks awesome too! I wondering how you got up there and set the camera up that far away without either of you falling off. XD XD

Ha ha, well I was a little cold but not too bad – I didn't stand in the creek long. πŸ˜‰ HA, good point.
You don't have turtles? *sniff* I KNOW, I wished he would too, but oh well. Thanks so much! Oh, you're right, it does look like a cross!
Aww, thank youuuu again! You're so sweet. ❀ Well I like the second to last one too, but I almost commented on the very odd angle of my hand that looks super creepy if you notice it, but I thought better of it and decided not to ruin the picture for everyone. :'D
Heh heh, good question. πŸ˜› Welp, I opened my bedroom window and struggled out with my tripod and camera; then set the aformentioned up at a place where the roof intersected so the tripod could brace against it, and then I sat down by the window a little ways off. πŸ™‚

      1. Oh okay. I see it now. XD XD It’s still fine. You could’ve just cropped it out and zoomed in on your face I guess? It would make a good profile pic? πŸ™‚
Oh I guess that makes sense. XD I’ve never lived in a house where I could really climb out a window anywhere so it seems pretty precarious. XD It turned out to be a pretty cool photo though! πŸ˜€

        1. Heh heh, I thought about it, but by then I had already spent so long on the post I just decided to go ahead and publish it, you know? XD Ooh, that’s a good idea! I definitely want to have a fall profile picture…
Ahh, well I’m used to being able to do that because we had a flat roof at our old house outside our bedroom window. But yeah! πŸ˜€

  5. Ohh! I am so excited for the giveaway! πŸ˜€ Ohh! That sweater is so fall-ish and pretty! I love those first three pictures!! β€œWhy HELLO, leaf #23323477! Fancy seeing you here!” XD XD That made me laugh out loud. Aww! Does the box turtle have a name? πŸ˜› Those pictures are so fall-ish!! Leaf-socks do look like they would be hard to walk in. XD WOAH! That sassafras sapling leaf is HUGE!! :O I LOVE that silhouette picture! πŸ˜€ Those were all AWESOME pictures!! To answer your questions: My favorite photo was the first one! πŸ˜€ Nope! I cannot take a portrait to save my life, so taking any advice from me would NOT be a good idea. XD XD Nope! I have not done a fall photo shoot recently, but that does sound fun!! πŸ˜€ Awesome post! πŸ™‚

  8. So beautiful! If I can’t see or feel anything slightly Fall-ish here, (no colorful leaves or cool weather in Florida at the moment.) at least I can look at pictures. 😁 How is teaching the art class going?
