Cousins, Pools, and Ice Cream Spills

Hello, dears!

We recently took a trip to our old farm for several events, including attending a funeral, swimming, and going out to eat. I didn’t take pictures of the first, but I did of the other two. 😉 If you like swimming, ice cream, or summer adventures, you might enjoy this post! I’d love to hear about what summer adventures you go on after you finish!

And since that’s apparently all the intro this thing needs, let’s get straight into the post. 😉

It was good to be back at the farm where we used to live for a day. The land still looked beautiful even under a cloudy sky. There aren’t nearly as many silos, dairies, or maple trees where we live now for some reason.

pool 1

I’ve driven on this road so many times! Isn’t it strange to go back to a familiar place with a new perspective??

pool 2

Even though it started out being a cloudy day, my siblings (minus Logan) and my cousin Jianna decided it was warm enough for swimming. 😉 Our very generous neighbor kindly offered the use of her pool whenever we want to come! It’s wonderful!

pool 3

Guys, look how CLEAR and BLUE the water is compared to our duckweed-covered pond. :’D It was also a lot colder. But we managed. 😉

pool 4

ISN’T THIS THE BEST EXPRESSION EVER?? It’s edited kinda weirdly, but I LOVE THIS ONE.

pool 5

I’m not sure if this would have been better without the black and white portion or not… I kind of like the limited colors, but it’s also a bit distracting. What do you think?

pool 7

I love how the water almost glows in these pictures! Such a pretty blue. ❤

pool 8

Heh heh. I think my siblings were having a “smallest splash” contest. Not TOO bad, Jeff, but not too good either. They were rating each other, but I forget what score Jeff got here. Maybe a five or something.

pool 10

Jianna’s expressions are great. :’D

pool 11

Eventually, everyone got tired of swimming, so we got out and sat by the diving board to refuel with some snacks. 😛 This is rather a random picture, but Jeff’s neon swim shirt reflected in Megan’s eyes in a really neat way. Isn’t is so bright?

pool 12

Right before we left I found a mulberry tree with ripe berries on it! Yum. Have you ever had mulberries? They taste sweet and mild. Also they stain your fingers quite a lot, but then most berries do. That’s part of the fun, right? 😉

pool 14

We left the pool in Gram’s beloved little white truck. She’s had it for years, and it has been included in many fond memories with the cousins (and some not-so-fond memories, like when my brother accidentally ran over my foot O.o).

pool 15

Our neighbor boards horses, and she must have boarded this one for a while because I think this specific horse might have appeared on my blog before. O.o

pool 16

The soft greens look so pretty together. ❤ I love the highlights on the corn leaves! This field looks super healthy.

pool 18

We drove up to my grandparents’ house after the pool, which means… PEBBLES! 😀

pool 20

A little while later, we all left in our respective cars to go out to eat at a BBQ restaurant. It had decent food, but the atmosphere was quite odd – it felt like a ghost town or something; with a big, beautiful interior, no lights, hardly any other customers, and only one waitress. Since they didn’t offer dessert, we went to Dairy Queen for ice cream afterward. 😉

pool 23

Mmm, this is making me hungry. 😛 I love the crisp chocolate coating on the dipped ice cream. What kind of ice cream do you normally order?

pool 25

For myself, I got a Reese’s Blizzard. So, you know how they serve the Blizzards upside down as their trademark? Welp, I took it outside and turned it over to take a picture, only… I guess it had been out in the heat for too long because ARRGGGH IT JUST WENT “SPLAT” ON THE GROUND. So much for my dessert. I took this picture after it had melted the rest of the way on the sidewalk. *sigh* Thankfully, my cousin generously shared her tasty sundae with me, so it was all good. 🙂 Still. That was unfortunate.

pool 26

We ate at some outside tables, beside these gorgeous flowers. This is one of my favorite shades of purple. ❤

pool 27

After we had finished our ice cream and the cousins had talked over many ambitious plans for the summer, my family and I drove home. We stopped at an overlook on the way to enjoy the pretty mountain scenery one last time. The only good-ish picture I got was of the weeds in the foreground, but oh well. XD

pool 28

Ahh, fun times, fun times. 🙂 One of my favorite parts about summer is how many adventures we go on with family and friends. And now that I have pictures of this one, I can remember it all year round!

What is your favorite part of summer? Would you get an ice cream cone or a Blizzard? (And has your Blizzard ever fallen on the ground too?)

Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

  1. HA HA OH DEAR. Also WHICH BROTHER RAN OVER YOUR FOOT AND HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT? Looks like fun times, my dear! And honestly…I prefer pictures without the black and white sections. And oh dear, I’ve never had a blizzard so I don’t know how they look like upside down…but…that…didn’t sound good. XD

    1. Heh heh, I wondered if you’d catch that. XD Logan accidentally ran over my foot when we were unloading corn husks into the field a long time ago, but nobody was injured, so it all ended alright. 🙂 Yay, thanks for the feedback on the B&W! HEHEHEH YEAH. XD

      1. There are many things I catch. Just the other day I caught a gummy pack halfway down the great room hallway from my mom. HUH, interesting. Good thing it wasn’t broken. Ouch. Of course!

  2. I love the black and white pictures with the colored pool! They make it look like the pool is where all of the fun and energy is at! Great pictures! My favorite part about summer is driving around with the windows down and the radio up! Looks like you’re having a fun summer! (Minus the Blizzard on the ground part..)

  3. Looks like such a fun time! I agree, when you’re used to swimming in a pond, any pool is a treat! The ice cream looks so delicious! I usually go for a cone. XD

  4. Aww, what an unfortunate blizzard :(. But those were some lovely photos. I loved everyones happy expressions in the pool. I love summer so much! It’s my favorite season. Usually we go on vacation for a few weeks but this year we had a spring one instead. It’s such a happy and warm season and the flowers and lighting give me a lot of photography practice 🙂

Also those faces are killing me with laughter. XD
It’s a mixed feeling isn’t it, to enter a place you’ve been before? The same thing happened to me yesterday at the city park, and for a while I was like, “it’s smaller than I remembered” 😛 ALSO NOOOOOOO YOUR POOR BLIZZARD. I only get Blizzards cause they’re so good. And cause toppings. XD

  8. I absolutely love the color of the pool water! One of my favorite colors. 🙂 PEBBLES! She gets me EVERY TIME. So adorable. I think I would rather have a Blizzard, and as of yet, I have not had one go “KERSPLAT!” Lets hope my fortunes don’t turn. 😉

  12. Wow Jianna jumping off the diving board is such a great pic! XD I like the black and white background. It looks artsy enough to me. 😉 😛
Pool water IS really pretty in photos. XD Turquoise is my favorite color, if you can’t tell by my blog. 😛
Wow the reflection of his shirt is so cool! You can see him in her eye too! O.o
OUCH he ran over your foot in that thing?! Did he break it??? O.O
Awwwwwwwe pebbles is getting so big. :,( ❤
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RIP Reese's Blizzard! D: D: D: XD I guess that's why they turn them over for only a half a second while indoors. XD XD At least your cousin shared hers with you. :,D
Wow I love the mountain pic! The colors are so pretty! And I really love how the flowers in front are sharper and the mountains in back are blurry and kinda washed out, it's a cool contrast. It kinda reminds me of your watercolor paintings a little bit. I bet you could recreate it by painting the mountains as watercolor and then the flowers with acrylic on top? Idk, I'm not as much an artist as you, it's just an idea. ;P
When I go to Dairy Queen I usually get a Blizzard, but I love chocolate dipped soft serve cones too! We have a small chain in my area called Little Millers, and they have really great soft serve ice cream so that's where I would usually get some. 😛

Yesss, I love the color of the pool water too. 🙂
I know, right?? I thought so as well!
YEAH, it was bad. XD But not really, actually – it surprisingly hardly hurt and didn’t do any damage. Just kind of bruised it a little, I think. The ground must have been soft enough or something…
      I knooow. ❤
HAHA, YEAH. XD Well I'm sure it would have worked if the Blizzard was as cold as when they turned it over, but it wasn't… And yeah!
Aww, thank you! Yeah, I like the contrast and depth of field there too! Ooooh yeah, that would be pretty! Great idea. 🙂
Yuuuuum, that sounds amazing! Now I'm hungry for ice cream. XD
Thank you so much for the lovely long comment, Heather! I love hearing from you. ❤
      P. S. I'm ALMOST done with your letter! Hopefully I can send it tomorrow!

Oh it’s okay. XD I haven’t had time to get to the post office anyway. We really should move it to the town we actually live in now…and have been for the last two years. XD At least it’s only a 20 min drive away but still…we are running out of reasons to go over there now and that’s still a long way just to get the mail. 😛

    1. Well YAY, I’m glad to hear it! Hee hee, I like those too. 🙂
      P. S. You noticed! Yep, my parents did that on purpose… well, they purposefully continued the trend later on. XD

      1. Yep! 😀 My mom did that, too (continuing the trend). My siblings (I have four, too) and I have names with two of the same vowels (except for the youngest, Jordyn, with one “y” as his special vowel). 😀
