Summer Aesthetic + Playlist

Hello, dears!

You guys seemed to really enjoy my last playlist post, so here’s another one! This time I chose 18 summery, fun, upbeat songs that are perfect for road trips, outings with friends, or just for putting yourself in a summery mood. πŸ™‚Β

Since these songs tend to be more focused on happy melodies than deep lyrics, I’m not going to share my favorite lines this time – you’ll just have to discover some yourselves! Instead, I’ll tell a little bit about the song, accompanied by a link to a YouTube music/lyric video and a summery “polaroid” picture that (sometimes) goes with the song. You can find all the songs on Spotify as well. (Check the end of this post for a link to my full summer playlist!) And just so you know, all these songs are clean and family-friendly. πŸ™‚

Now then! Unwrap that ice cream sandwich, put on your sunglasses, and let’s get listening.Β

to the ocean – VOCAL FEW // We’ll start off with a very summery, beach-themed song. I just discovered Vocal Few recently; their music has a unique kind of folk-y sound to it.

Polaroid 2

here we go – DREW HOLCOMB & THE NEIGHBORS // This one is just plain fun! I kinda want to listen to it on repeat but then I’d get tired of it, especially because the tune is so catchy.Β

polaroid 7

compass – SHAWN MCDONALD // This is a good exploring or hiking song. πŸ™‚ Shawn McDonald has some other great Christian music as well if you want to look him up.

polaroid 6

horizon (a new day) – TOBYMAC //Β  A very bouncy, upbeat song from TobyMac’s most summery album. (The one with snow on the cover. πŸ˜› )

polaroid 5

you take me places – JAMIE SLOCUM// This isn’t my top favorite, but I had to put it on because it was the song that first inspired me to make a summer playlist. It’s a simple, pleasant little song that’s great for listening to while driving.

polaroid 4

good to be alive – JASON GRAY// This song makes me want to count all my blessings and run around outside with bare feet.

Polaroid 1

we’re gonna be alright – SWITCHFOOT// A happy, hopeful song by my favorite artist. πŸ™‚

polaroid 18

jig – DOGWOOD & HOLLY// Sorry, guys, I couldn’t find a video for this one; you’ll have to look it up on Spotify or Amazon Music, or see more of their songs here. Dogwood & Holly is a tiny Christian folk/bluegrass band with interesting music and unique lyrics. If you like folk Christian music, I definitely recommend you check them out!

polaroid 16

borrow (one day at a time) – JOSH WILSON// I LOVE these lyrics! And the tune too: it’s extremely catchy and will probably get stuck in your head. πŸ˜› Enjoy!

polaroid 15

along the way – THE HUNTS// Pretty much all of The Hunts’ music could be on a summer playlist. πŸ™‚ The band is composed of seven siblings, which I think is really neat.

polaroid 17

everything at once – LENKA// A fun, slightly nonsensical pop song with a bright, light feel.

polaroid 14

the heart – NEEDTOBREATHE// I think this is one of the most classic NEEDTOBREATHE songs. We like it because of the line “gotsta make hay when the sun is shining.” XD

polaroid 13

dream small – JOSH WILSON// Another Josh Wilson song. πŸ˜‰ I’ve been listening to and enjoying a lot of his music lately! The lyrics are so authentic and thought-provoking. This song is an excellent reminder to remember the little things in life.

polaroid 10

gone – SWITCHFOOT// This song has a little more rock in it like a lot of Switchfoot’s older music. The music is upbeat and playful and the lyrics are thought-provoking as well as fun.Β

polaroid 12

diamonds and gold – THE GRAY HAVENS// This song is super fun to sing along to in the car. πŸ™‚

polaroid 11

cat – RELIENT K// We shall end with this amusing and delightfully carefree song by Relient K. If I could pick just one album to be a summer playlist on its own, I’d chose “Air for Free,” which is what this song is from.

  7. I checked out all the songs! The most catchy/interesting ones to me were Good to Be Alive and The Heart. What’s funny about the latter is that I have heard the first couple lines of the song in an ad, so I recognized it right away. I had no idea it was that group, though! The chorus of You Take Me Places was kind of fun, but I didn’t think the verses were as good.
Lately I’ve been listening to a song by Jamie Grace that is quite out of my general style of music, but I like it because we sang it at the Joni and Friends Family Retreat. It’s called Do Life Big, and it’s very upbeat and fun, though I’m not sure that it’s your style either. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXmgbTeY0xU
Another quirky, up beat song I like somewhat is Baptize Me in the Rain by Mark Bishop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ic_tveNJlg&list=OLAK5uy_mPIuyAFSgoEmofVTElkkVxd9I7ErV_i_4&index=2

    1. Wow, really?? Good for you, Sassafras! Ah yes, I quite like those too (well obviously πŸ˜‰ ). Ha! I had no idea that “The Heart” was in an ad! That’s neat.
Oh, I used to listen to Jamie Grace a lot! That IS a fun song. I don’t listen to her much anymore, but her songs are enjoyable and summery. πŸ™‚ I listened to the Mark Bishop song (while it was raining outside, heh), and I liked it! πŸ˜€
