Whatever Floats Your Boat {Pond Swimming}

Hello, dears!

Remember the post from last year about swimming in our duckweed-covered pond? Well, it’s swimming season again and “our pool is open!” XD It’s a rather greenish pool, but hey, it’s water, right?

One Sunday evening a couple of weeks ago, we all went down to the dock and my siblings went swimming and canoeing. Sort of. I stayed on dry land and took photos instead, heh heh. I managed to capture quite a lot of amusing action shots and funny expressions, which I hope you enjoy as much as I do!

Ready? Set? Go!

My three youngest siblings went down first to “break the ice.” I mean the duckweed. I love how lush and green this setting is, don’t you? So prettyyyy!

This is a lush green I’m not so happy about. Maggie didn’t seem to mind the duckweed, though!

pond 2

She’s so funny – she LOVES water, but she won’t wade any deeper than she can reach. She can swim, she just hates doing it for some reason. Strange, since she’s a labrador retriever.

pond 3

The day before, my siblings and some friends came up with the marvelous game of paddling the canoe out to the middle of the pond, standing up, and….

pond 4

TIPPING OVER! :’D

pond 5

I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks extremely fun.

pond 6

We can all swim, but we almost always use pool noodles in the pond because the bottom is all muddy gross and it’s exhausting to swim without touching the whole time you’re in the water.

pond 7

HAHA. XD I think Jeff was trying to balance on the canoe underwater. Good thing it floats back to the top!

pond 9

Oh my goodness, this one almost makes me laugh!

pond 12

SO DOES THIS ONE. Megan’s expression…

pond 10

I like how sharp and clear the waves are in this photo!

pond 11

My other brother, Logan, eventually came down, and my parents shortly after him. The question is, do you jump in first, or get in the canoe?

pond 8

Canoe it is. HAHA, this is a great picture, if I do say so myself! πŸ˜€

pond 13

We lost the second paddle somewhere, so Logan just used his hands. πŸ˜› Who knows what Jeff was exclaiming about…

pond 14

Hey, they’re all standing up at once! Pretty impressive, right?

pond 19

Oh. Well. That didn’t last very long.

pond 15

They all survived! πŸ˜›

pond 18

And now we shall end with a hilarious photo of Jeff trying to escape before the canoe sinks. :’D He has the best expressions.

pond 17

Ha ha, working with these photos just made me smile. πŸ™‚ I hope they did the same for you, my friends!

Which photo was your favorite? Does tipping a canoe sound fun to you or not? Do you like swimming?

Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

  2. That looks like so much fun! I love kayaking, so basically canoeing but in a less bowl shaped boat. Today I’m going to paddle board for the first time! 😁

  3. Ha ha, I giggled over some of these pictures! THAT LOOKS LIKE SO MUCH FUN. Except for the tipping part, because I’m not really sure if I can swim or not…Anyway, the pictures are really nice, too, Allison! Nice and crisp and clear and lovely.

  4. It looked like so much fun! I’ve actually never swam in a pond before, come to think of it, but I’d love to someday! Maggie looks soooo cute in these photos, especially when she had a little bit of the duckweed on her nose!

  6. That looks SOOOO fun!!!! I wish we had a pond near us to swim in that wasn’t full of snapping turtles! XD Haha!!! Great pictures by the way! Did you get in the water ever or just take pictures and stay dry?

  7. Haha, these pictures are great! It looks like so much fun, despite the duckweed. My favorite picture is the one of them standing up the in canoe and also the one right before that. Also, tipping over in a canoe sounds like great fun. I’ve gone kayaking (I don’t remember if I ever tipped over, though), but I don’t think I’ve ever been in a canoe. As for your last question–of course I love swimming! When we go swimming at my grandma’s in the lake, we stay out there for as long as possible, and we never use pool noodles. So it’s treading water all the time. πŸ˜‰ However, in the pool I get lazy and usually just hang out on the edge.
A random question I have is, is it possible to get rid of the duckweed on the pond? Have you ever looked into that?

    1. Hee hee, THANKS! Yes indeed! Wow, that’s great that you can tread water for so long. I can swim for a decent length of time, but I’m not that great at just treading water or staying in one place. πŸ˜‰
Great question! We’ve looked into it and found several methods. You can get sprays, install a fountain to aerate and/or filter the water, or use a windmill to run a pump in the pond for the same reason. Those are a few that I remember, anyway. I think it would be so neat to have a fountain, but I don’t know if we’ll ever get to it or not…
