Hello, dears!

So, remember the old shed in this post? Well, I took a bunch more pictures of it and decided to post them today. All these photos will be in black and white because I thought it fit with with the age and structure of the subject, but don’t worry – it was foggy and dreary, so you’re not missing much color. 😉

This shed isn’t original to our farm. It was in the path of a road they were building near here in the 50’s, so for some reason the owner of the farm moved it here. A couple people have lived in it since even though it has electricity, but no plumbing or running water. O.o

It used to be a duplex, with two sections of two rooms each, and two doors for each side. Now it doesn’t look very livable, but it does look pretty neat!

It sits, half surrounded by pines and cedars, at the intersection of our lane and the lane to the Cedar House. I love how this picture balances the dark trees and dark fence!

The day I took these photos was the first time I’d really been to the right side of the shed, which is overhung by a small grove of cedars. It was so hidden and peaceful and serene there in the fog.

It felt lonely and very still, like no one had set foot on these weathered steps for a long, long time.

The paint is peeling and the boards are rough, but I think it’s such a neat building, especially in black and white pictures like this one. 😉

The door on this side is beautiful! The glass panes look like they’re covered in frost crystals or snowflakes.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I think it would be great to restore it sometime.

The doorknob is small and rusty, and a vine has grown over the latch as if to lock it even more securely.

An empty lightbulb holder sprouts from the wall, holding a paint-caked, broken chain.

After I’d had my fill of that side, I decided to explore inside the shed. I’d been in there a couple times, but I didn’t know how many critters had made it their home since. XD The door opened hard, with a loud, grudging creak. Here we go…

I peered into the darkness and didn’t see anything scurrying about on the floor. Which was good, since I was barefoot. I flipped on the switch overgrown with vines and a lightbulb sparked to life, surrounded by bunches of brittle plants hanging from the rafters.

I have no idea why these flowers are drying there or what they were for, but they made good photography subjects. 😉

They look vaguely like sunflowers, but they’re so dry and shriveled it’s hard to tell.

As I mentioned before, the shed’s interior is divided into four small “rooms,” now separated only by a few bare bones of boards. At the center stands a sort of cinder block chimney with an opening in all four rooms.

That frosted door looked considerably more desolate from the inside, tucked away in the darkness and hung with a thick banner of cobwebs.

I poked around a little bit more, but the shed was mostly bare and I was getting chilly, so after a while I came back to the open door. The telephone poles looked ghostly in the fog…

We shall end with this one last picture which I quite like. 🙂 Somehow vines were growing all up in the shed, although they are dry and brown now.

  1. That’s really neat! I think this one is my favorite photo: https://farmgirlslifebackup.files.wordpress.com/2019/03/shed-7.jpg?w=765&h=510 , I think mainly for the composition and coloring of the photo. 🙂
    I like the black and white, but I’m also taking a black and white film photography class, so I’m kind of used to seeing it a lot 😉 . I’m not sure if I would explore inside the shed… maybe if I had someone with me! XD

  2. Black and white has its own feel to it. That being said, this was LOVELY! 😀 And that cabin is creepy in a pretty, old, quiet ghost town kinda way. 😛

  6. I think these photos look great in black and white, Allison! I really like the third photo, so I think that one is my favorite. Also, to answer your other question, I bet I would explore the shed, thought it probably would be slightly creepy.

  12. I’m going backwards commenting today. 😛 I absolutely love the nostalgic, sort of spooky feeling of these photos! I think my favorite pictures are the one of the doorknob and the last one of the open door. 🙂 Do you think you’ll ever try to restore/fix up that shed? I kept thinking that it would make an amazing clubhouse. XD
