A Year in Rabbits {Bunny Calendar Photos}

Hello, dears!

If you’re in need of cheering up, I have just the thing: thirty adorable pictures of bunnies! Megan and I took these photos months ago, for a custom calendar we gave as a gift. (See some of our previous calendar pictures here.) Now I’m finally able to post some of the best photos – and bloopers! πŸ˜‰

Enjoy a year in rabbits!

JANUARY

Since it was October when we took these photos, we didn’t exactly have any snow… so we made do with a white blanket draped over a large, cracked bucket. πŸ˜› Willow obligingly modeled this toboggan for us, and must have thought her pink tongue complimented the hat well, HAHA. :’D

post 19

After several more tries (but not too many – Willow is a patient model), we ended up with THIS AHHHH THE CUTENESS PLEASE HELP MEEEEE. If this photo doesn’t make you smile, melt your heart, or both, please seek medical attention. πŸ˜› XD

FEBRUARY

Naturally we wanted to do something Valentine-y for February, and naturally we chose Olaf to be the model since she (yes, she) is the living embodiment of Valentine colors. For the props, we found a bright pink blanket, borrowed my little sister’s canopy for the tulle, and rifled through the freezer for some candy hearts dating back to who knows when. :’D

post 21

I don’t know if you can read the words on the candy hearts, but the previous one says “awesome,” and this one says “hug me.” Does anyone want to give poor, neglected Olaf a hug, or are her eyes too creepy? XD XD

post 22

This is the one we used for the calendar because HA, it is hilarious! The heart says “Be Mine,” and the way Olaf is winking just takes the cake. Or the candy.

MARCH

I have a bunch of bloopers for March because Basil + bubbles = MUCH CUTENESS. Also much difficulty in getting a good, non-blurry photo. The first problem we encountered was Basil wandering off, so we gave her dandelions to eat. BAHAHA, she looks so dignified and noble except for the little leaf sticking out of her mouth. :’D

post 6

After we got her settled, we added in some bubbles. Or tried to, but THE TONGUE AGAIN! I love it when rabbits do that. I think Basil was trying to clean the bubble remains off of her fur. Psst, you missed the tiny bubble on the tip of your whisker, bunny! XD

post 5

Aha, Megan improved her bubble blowing capabilities in this one! ISN’T IT ADORABLE? But it hid her face a little too much, so we kept trying…

post 11

Um, no. Definitely not this one. SORRY, BASIL.

post 9

Ah, there we go! I actually ended up layering in bubbles from a couple of different photos because we never got enough in the proper places in just one picture. But hey, it worked out!

bunny calendar 3

APRIL

I only have one picture for this month because Lavender was even more energetic than Basil was. XD And again… dandelions are great rabbit pacifiers. We struggled with finding a good location for this picture out of the glaring sun, but I think it still turned out cute and Easter-y. πŸ™‚

bunny calendar 4

MAY

AWWWW. I miss having baby bunnies. The quality of this picture isn’t the greatest but AHH, how could we resist adding a row of small fluffballs to the calendar? You can see plenty more adorable baby rabbit photosΒ here.

bunny calendar 5

JUNE

For June and December we decided to photograph all our rabbits together. And what’s a better summery group activity than a picnic? (Maybe swimming, but we didn’t exactly want to throw our rabbits into the pond.)

post 1

We spent quite a while concocting this mini picnic, featuring tiny cheese-and-lettuce sandwiches and a delicious salad of fresh dandelions and sliced carrots. We didn’t let them eat the sandwiches, don’t worry. πŸ˜‰

OOPS, THIS ISN’T A RABBIT PHOTO. Sorry, there are actually only 29 bunny pictures in this post. I hope you’ll forgive me.

post 24

Basil’s ears are the cutest ever. They’ve always been like this and I hope they always will be. πŸ˜€

post 25

My my, Lavender, why so fierce? You don’t have scowl at me like that – I’m not going to steal your food. Sheesh.

post 26

This is the finished picture – a masterpiece! XD I say that because oh my, it took me AGES to edit since I had to replace all the grass in the background with picnic blanket. Not to mention Megan and Carmen’s hard work at making the bunnies stay in their places, and all our tiny food preparation.

bunny calendar 6

JULY

After all that work, we chose something easy and amusing: namely, Olaf preparing for a bath in the kiddie pool. (Picture from somewhere in the depths of this post.)

bunny calendar 7

AUGUST

August was another tricky month. We went through several ideas before landing on a good one. One of the early ones involved Willow being blown about on a large stump in the glaring sunshine…

post 14

HA HA I LOVE THIS ONE! But it would be just a tad weird for a calendar page since you can’t really tell that mass of fur is a rabbit. Willow has that problem a lot. *nods sympathetically* I don’t have the behind-the-scenes picture for this one, but it was pretty hilarious: Megan was sprawled out behind the redbud tree, one arm holding Willow up with difficulty to the fork in the branches. :’D

post 15

We ended up placing Willow in a much more comfortable (and easy) position, on the mulch beneath the tree. Isn’t the headscarf the BEST??

bunny calendar 8

SEPTEMBER

Thankfully Dad hadn’t harvested the cornfield by our lane yet, so we used the cornstalks and an ear for a farm/harvest themed picture. Lavender seems affronted by the taste of corn husk. Well, my dear rabbit, you didn’t have to eat it. *shrugs*

post 13

EEEP SO CUTE. I love how neatly contained she is in the straw hat. XD

bunny calendar 9

OCTOBER

Only one photo for this month because we had almost no trouble getting it, and therefore very few bloopers. This is one of my top favorites because… WELL, LOOK. A bunny in a scarf with fall bokeh in the background. How could you not love it?

bunny calendar 10

NOVEMBER

Another baby bunny photo from the same post I linked earlier. Again, not the most beautiful picture, but AHH, a baby bunny yawn is heart-melting!

bunny calendar 11

DECEMBER

For December we wanted something Christmasy but also more orginal than, say, a Christmas tree. (Also we didn’t have one of those yet, so.) My little sister Carmen allowed us to borrow her fuzzy blanket for the shoot, as long as we put towels down under the bunnies. XD

post 17

AHHH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! We might have used this for the calendar page if the other bunnies’ expressions had been better. But still, isn’t this precious??

post 16

AWW THIS IS PRECIOUS TOO. SO. SO. CUTE. A great way to end the calendar if I do say so myself. πŸ˜€

bunny calendar 12

BONUS

Guess what, there are actually 13 months in the year! XD Just kidding, but I had two extra pictures I couldn’t bear to leave out. I wish we would have used them for the calendar, but I think it would have made it uneven (we tried to get each bunny in twice, all of them twice, and baby bunnies twice).

Anyway, if you’re not already smiling, please do so for Basil, the novice photographer. Cheeeeeese!

post 3

If Basil didn’t look so startled, this would be PERFECT. Ahh it’s so cute! Megan’s Polaroid camera makes a very aesthetic prop. πŸ˜›

post 4

And that, sadly, is all for today. Are you sufficiently cheered? If not, you can always check out the posts I linked or type “bunny” into the search bar on my blog. πŸ˜€

Before you go, I have a question for you guys.Β Megan and I are considering starting a shop on our blogs to sell things like bunny calendars, postcards, notebooks, etc. Basically blog merch featuring our photography and such. Would you guys be interested in that or do you just like looking at the photos? I’d love to know, either way!

Which month’s pictures were your favorite? Which bunny do you think is the cutest? Do you think we should sell bunny calendars or just post the pictures?

Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

***Allison

  1. Yes, please start selling bunny calendars! That’s a great idea! I hope you start selling notebooks too–with bunnies on them, of course. I’d buy them! And the pictures of Willow in the beanie made me laugh out loud! πŸ™‚

  3. BUNNIES! Oh my, I LOVED this post, Allison! Your rabbits are (almost ) as cute as Snowball, and I feel bad because I used to think Willow wasn’t cute, but she redeemed herself in my opinion with the headscarf, because AH CUTENESS ATTACK! I love your bunny posts. πŸ˜€ (And how can I get that calendar? I want it so badly. XD)

    1. AHHH YAYYYY, I’m so glad you liked this, Amie! WELL! Willow is offended! Or she was, until you changed your mind. HA HA BUT YESSS I KNOW, I love that picture too! (Aww, well would you mind the fact that January is pretty much over so you won’t be able to see that picture much??)

      1. Tell Willow I’m so very sorry! She’s a lions head, right? A friend of mine had two of them, but um…They don’t do too well in the outdoor heat of where I live in the summer. *shakes head* May the rest in peace. (No, I wouldn’t mind at all!)

        1. She says she forgives you and thanks for the gracious apology. Well… she’s kind of a mystery rabbit. XD She was supposedly part Mini Lop and part Jersey Woolly, but I think she looks like an Angora. XD Oh dear, how sad! *sniff* (Well then, we can probably make arrangements! πŸ˜‰ )

Weird, right? EEEEEEPP I’M SO GLAD YOU LOVE THE PICTURES TOO, and I would LOVE to sell things on my blog! Megan and I will have to keep researching that and hopefully make it a reality!

  8. Haha, your bunnies are so cute, funny, and adorable. I don’t usually gush over blog posts of any sort, but this post was different, as I kept exclaiming aloud about how cute the bunnies are and how creative you were with your sets! I’m in awe of it all. You really nailed the lighting! πŸ™‚ My favorites are…lets see: the bubble ones, the picnic photos, Willow in the tree wearing the bandanna (that is so so cute and hilarious!!), and the Christmas picture. My favorite might be the photos of Lavender in the straw hat munching the corn stalk, though. It was such a great idea, and I just love it. Also, Basil with the instax camera is so funny and cute. I imagine that whoever received this bunny calendar is really enjoying seeing bunnies on their wall every month. I would love to have a bunny calendar, but I don’t think I have the budget for it. πŸ˜‰

  10. Great pictures! They turned out so cute!
When I read, before seeing the picture, the part about needing to get medical help if you don’t smile or if your heart doesn’t melt, I was thinking, “Uh oh, then I might need medical help.” But then I saw the picture. And smiled. And felt my heart melt.
    (Yay, I don’t need medical help! πŸ˜› )
    Great post!
