Last Sunday we had a lovely afternoon.

After church we had a belated but absolutely delicious Easter lunch at my grandparent’s house with our cousins.

Afterwards the kids went down to play with Marigold, a sweet, tame cat who lives in the barn.

We got distracted from the cat by a game of “Who Can Find the Tallest Dandelion.” If you have never played that game, I highly recommend it. 🙂 Sometimes the simplest, happy things are the best things.

We have hundreds and thousands of dandelions around our farm, and some of them grow over two feet tall in the fields. Seriously.

 I won the contest that day, but today my brother found what could be the record breaker: a whopping 27 inch tall dandelion.

We graciously fed our dear rabbits some of the losing dandelions. Lily sat there contentedly, not moving except for her mouth and nose, slurping up dandelion stems like spaghetti. We tried not to let the dandelions run out, but eventually they did. Until they stopped she just nibbled away one after another, looking mildly disinterested and rather sleepy.

Then we gathered eggs – a not very lovely part of the afternoon, because they were extremely dirty and it took forever. The good thing is, it didn’t actually take forever, because we finished eventually.

When we were doing the dandelion contest earlier, I had noticed the beautiful crimson clover and vetch blooms in the fields. After eggs, I ran down to the house and grabbed my camera straight away.

And so here are the photos. I love the peaceful, beautiful, serene atmosphere of them. ♥

And I love that little things like dew drops and triticale and even weeds like dandelions can be so pretty and graceful.

  11. WOW, 2-foot dandelions? That’s amazing! These are some gorgeous pictures – my favorite is the last one or the ones of the dandelion puffballs. I don’t know what they’re called… XD Yesterday I had my brother blow some of those while I took pictures with a 1/1000 shutter speed, and I actually got some good pictures! 😀

      Aww, thank you! Ha ha, there should be an official name for them. Maybe there is… XD
      Wow, that sounds really neat! Are you going to post them? Now I want to try that… XD I tried it with Megan, but it was too shady to have that high of a shutter speed, so I’ll have to try it in the sun. 🙂

  16. Who could have a favorite of all those awe-striking photos, Allison? I mean, wow! And those red clover’s are HUGE!! Did you know, that on ebay and such, people pay ridiculous amounts of money to buy red clover by the pound? It ‘s really good for you, actually!! Not by like, eating it in the field or anything, but dried it’s put in teas and such. Anyway, um, did I just give you an herbal lesson? LOL!

    We have those purple flowers here in Idaho, but I’m yet to see a dandelion yet!! OH, wait, I did see one when we were out… Heh heh. None around my house though, Spring is so SLOW here! AH! 😀

    1. Aww, thank you sooo much, Livy! Yeah, they are pretty big, but that’s probably because they’re crimson clover instead of red clover. 😉 We were just discussing the differences the other night, and red clover has a more traditional, ball shape, while crimson clovers are spikes. 🙂 Ooh, that’s interesting! Have you ever had red clover tea? Heh heh, I sure did learn an herbal lesson. XD XD XD Did you learn a crop lesson? XD XD XD
      NO DANDELIONS?! Well you can have some of ours. XD Is spring usually this slow for you or does it seem extra much so this year? It must be so hard to wait!

    2. Oh, haha! I didn’t know that was Crimson clover! Well, I’m not sure if people buy that…. but who knows? They do Red Clover, which is what we have! I’m not sure if I’ve had red clover tea, I think my mom might have put some in some tea once but I don’t remember. 😉
      What kind of crops? Clover crops? 😉
      The dandelions are here in full force now!! Yay! There not super tall or anything though. I think Spring is super slow this year because we had such a hard winter with 4 ft. of snow at one point!

      1. Ha ha, yep, I meant did I teach you about how clover can be used as a crop. 😉
        Yay! 😀 Wow yeah, if you had four feet of snow that does seem like it might slow spring down. XD

  17. Amazing pictures!! All of them are beautiful, but the one that stood out to me was the ring of mushrooms! It looks like the kind of place fairies would meet and dance around or something. 😉
